(KNSI) – At a public safety roundtable Tuesday, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz outlined what his public safety proposal would mean to cities across the state.
Under the proposed plan, St. Cloud would receive over $1 million to improve public safety in the city. In total, over $300 million would be spent in direct aid to Minnesota communities.

In a statement, Walz says he understands that the public safety needs of a community are best met locally. “When putting together this budget, we listened to what local fire and police chiefs were telling us – and what we heard was that they need direct support,” Governor Walz continued. “With a detailed analysis released today, we know that this funding would provide cities like St. Cloud, Duluth, Rochester, and Eagan with over $1,000,000 each to provide for their communities’ public safety.”
In addition, the public safety plan would fund a statewide violent crime initiative to assist local police in addressing violent crime and invest in community groups to prioritize youth intervention and juvenile justice. The plan would fund after-school activities, tutoring, mentoring, and other youth services.
