(KNSI) – A world record ice carousel was cut this weekend at ICE Fest in Little Falls. Officials with the 5th annual ICE Fest were able to cut a perfectly circular disk of ice 1,328 feet across using chain saws and surveying equipment.
To set the record, the ice carousel must do a complete spin.
ICE Fest organizers started the disk spinning at 4:18 p.m. Saturday, and it did six complete revolutions until high winds caused the carousel to finally freeze up at 12:30 p.m. Sunday.
According to officials at the ICE Fest, the ice carousel covered 31.8 acres, weighed over 80,000 tons, and had a circumference of .8 miles. The previous record ice carousel was 1240 feet across. That record was set in Northern Maine in January.
