(KNSI) — Members of the Allina Health community will pause Tuesday to honor and remember the victim and survivors of a fatal shooting at one of its clinics one year ago.

February 9th, 2021, Gregory Ulrich is accused of walking into the Allina Crossroads Clinic in Buffalo and opening fire. Killed in the shooting was 37-year-old wife and mother of two Lindsay Overbay. Overbay was a medical assistant at the clinic and enrolled at St. Cloud Technical and Community College. A statement from the school says Overbay completed her Associate of Arts degree online with the conclusion of the fall 2020 semester. She had applied to start the sonography program in the fall of 2021. Overbay was also a graduate of St. Cloud State University.

Four other people were seriously injured in the attack, including one person who was shot six times.

Ulrich also allegedly detonated two improvised explosive devices – one at the clinic’s entrance and the other near a desk in the clinic’s interior.

Buffalo Police Chief Pat Budke said Ulrich had a long history of conflict with medical clinics in the area and had been unhappy with the care he had received. According to a police report, Ulrich threatened to carry out a mass shooting at that clinic in October 2018, with a doctor telling investigators that Ulrich had talked about “shooting, blowing things up, and practicing different scenarios of how to get revenge.” He said Ulrich told him he dreamed about exacting revenge on the people who “tortured” him, referring to issues he had with back surgeries and the medication he was prescribed for them.

Ulrich was found competent to stand trial in August of 2021, and in October, a grand jury indicted him on first-degree murder and first-degree attempted murder charges.

His trial is scheduled for May.

The group Buffalo Strong is holding a gathering Tuesday night, February 9th at 6:00 at Buffalo High School to honor and remember the victim and survivors of the attack, and also to show the community’s resilience today and every day since the shooting.
