(KNSI) – Residents in part of Morrison County were the victims of mail theft. On Monday, the sheriff’s office says they were told a pile of stolen mail had been dumped at the Crow Wing Power Substation about four miles east of Little Falls.
All the mail belonged to residents living in Scandia Valley Township about five miles north of Cushing. The addresses were from the areas around Bear Road and Cottonwood Road. The mail was believed to have been stolen over the last few days.
The sheriff’s office would like to remind residents of ways to protect themselves against mail theft. They advise everyone to mail their letters at the post office or hand them to a letter carrier when sending personal information or items with monetary value. Pick your mail up promptly after delivery. Tell your post office when you will be out of town so they can hold your mail until you return.
The sheriff’s office asks anyone with information or who may have seen something suspicious to call law enforcement. Deputies say if you see someone other than a mail carrier messing with a mailbox, try to get a description of the person or the vehicle and a plate number if possible.
The sheriff’s office number is (320)-632-9233.
