(KNSI) – CentraCare Health reports that fewer than 100 COVID-19 patients are being treated in its hospitals systemwide for the first time in three months.
CentraCare’s latest COVID-19 inpatient report released Monday shows 83 people were being treated at the eight hospitals in the CentraCare/Carris Healthcare system. Officials say 43 of those people were unvaccinated, and 40 were vaccinated. The last time CentraCare reported less than 100 people hospitalized with COVID was November 1st.
Last week, CentraCare COVID-19 Incident Commander Dr. George Morris said data indicated we’ve hit the peak in the latest COVID surge but expects cases to remain high for a few more weeks. CentraCare Health officials say the spike in patients over the last few months was caused first by the delta variant and exploded in December due to the omicron variant.
When the surge was at its worst, St. Cloud Hospital was lucky to have help from a 23-member Department of Defense Medical Response Team assisting. The team spent two months and worked 7,400 hours at St. Cloud Hospital. Officials say the federal help brought needed relief to tired staff after nearly two years of dealing with the pandemic.
The DoD medical team left on Friday for another deployment.
CentraCare/Carris Health operates hospitals in St. Cloud, Monticello, Paynesville, Sauk Centre, Melrose, Redwood Falls, Willmar, and Long Prairie.
