(KNSI) – Camp Ripley is playing host to the United States Coast Guard and US Navy for under-ice diving training.
Through February, Coast Guard High-Risk Training instructors will train two week-long classes to teach students how to dive in a cold-weather environment, from inspecting and putting on their diving equipment to diving and using special equipment under the ice.
The US Navy will host their own ice dive training, run by Dive Rescue International and instructed by qualified Navy divers and experienced civilian instructors. The training will begin with setting up tents, cutting proper holes in the ice, and cold-water SCUBA set up training. Camp Ripley will provide the setting for the real-world ice and cold water diving portion of the training.
