Political Season Kicks Off With Caucuses Next Week

(KNSI) – Republicans and Democrats are getting ready to pick delegates and other officials to help elect candidates to run for public office in the St. Cloud area. District 14, which includes St. Cloud, St. Augusta and Waite Park, holds its caucuses on February 1st.

Republicans will caucus at Apollo High School in St. Cloud starting at 7 p.m. Party chair for Senate District 14 John Dvorak says a caucus is where people can get involved and make a difference.

“People feel kind of helpless. They have a lot of anger about politics and all the rest. Go to caucus. That is the start. You need to go to caucus because you can become a delegate that actually endorses local candidates and then also you can get elected to endorse congressional candidates.”

Dvorak says if you don’t want to be a delegate, there are other things the party needs help doing.

“or become a precinct chair. We’re trying to build up our activism network and precinct chairs and vice chairs are going to be a crucial part of that when we go forward.”

Due to the recent increase in COVID-19 cases, the District 14 Democrats have decided to move to contactless caucuses.

To participate in contactless caucuses, Minnesotans need to:

Head to sd14dfl.com/caucus-2022 and fill out the Precinct Caucus Non-Attendee Form and, if they choose, a Resolution Form.

o These forms will allow caucus-goers to run to be a delegate to future endorsing conventions and submit resolutions to the DFL Party’s Action Agenda.

Three options to submit the Non-Attendee and Resolution Forms:

o Electronically: choose the “Submit” option at the bottom of the web page

o By US Mail: choose the print form options, and mail to: PO Box 615, St. Cloud, MN 56302-0615

o Drop off: choose the print form options, and drop off the form(s) at the Central Minnesota DFL Office, 1729 W St. Germain, St. Cloud, MN 56301, during our regular business hours and on the evening of precinct caucuses, February 1st, 6:30-9 p.m.
