(KNSI) — Dangerously cold windchills are returning to Minnesota starting Monday afternoon.
The National Weather Service says the bone-chilling cold will begin to move in Monday afternoon and will steadily get colder as the day wears on.
A wind chill advisory is in effect starting at 3:00 Monday afternoon for wind chills around 25 to 35 degrees below zero. A wind chill warning goes into effect at midnight for air temperatures between 15 and 20 degrees below zero. Northwest winds will pick up to only around ten miles an hour, but wind chills are expected to drop to around 45 degrees below zero with such cold air temps. The wind chill warning is in effect until noon Tuesday. It moves back to a wind chill advisory from noon Tuesday until 10:00 a.m. Wednesday.
The dangerously cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes. The National Weather Service says to avoid outdoor activities if possible. If you’re going to be outside for any length of time, wear layers and cover up as much as possible. That includes wearing a warm coat, a hat, mittens, a scarf, and boots.
