(KNSI) — Comedian and Minnesota native Louie Anderson has died.
Anderson arrived on the scene thanks to a spot on The Tonight Show in 1984. He starred in several comedy specials and had acting roles in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Coming to America, Scrubs, Grace Under Fire, Touched by an Angel, and Chicago Hope. He created The Louie Show featuring himself as a therapist living in Duluth. It was canceled after just six episodes. His animated show, Life With Louie, lasted three seasons. Anderson was nominated for three consecutive Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, winning in 2016 for his performance on the FX comedy series Baskets.
Anderson also had a turn as a game show host with The Family Feud and appeared on, To Tell the Truth, Funny You Should Ask, and The Weakest Link.
Anderson authored four books: The F Word: How to Survive Your Family, Dear Dad: Letters from an Adult Child, Goodbye Jumbo…Hello Cruel World, and Hey Mom: Stories for My Mother, But You Can Read Them Too.
Anderson was hospitalized recently in Las Vegas due to complications from blood cancer. It’s not known when he was diagnosed with cancer, but he was receiving treatment for Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma when he died.
Anderson was 68.
