(KNSI) – Voting for the 2022 Minnesota Department of Transportation Name a Snowplow contest is underway.
MnDOT says it received nearly 11,000 creative name submissions in December and whittled the possible names down to 50 finalists.
Officials used a variety of factors when picking the finalists, including creativity, uniqueness, frequency of submissions, Minnesota-specific ideas, and names that would be easily identifiable and understandable to broad audiences.
Some of the names include Betty Whiteout, Dontcha Snow, Flake Superior, Halloween Blizzard Avenger, Scoopy Doo and Scraper Too, The Big Leplowski, Uff Da, and Skol Plow.
Most of this year’s finalists are new name ideas, but some names from last year made the 2022 finalists list. MnDOT is asking the public to name eight snowplows, one for each MnDOT district. The public can vote on the names until January 26th. The winners will be announced in early February.

In 2021, MnDOT District 3 in St. Cloud named its plow Darth Blader. The top vote-getter in the state was Plowy McPlowFace, which covers the Twin Cities Metro District.
