(KNSI) – The aiding and abetting murder and manslaughter trial of three former Minneapolis Police Officers accused of taking part in the killing of George Floyd will take place this summer. Judge Peter Cahill formally delayed the trial until June 13th for Thomas Lane, J. Kueng and Tou Thao. The trial was initially set for March 7th.
Prosecutors and lawyers asked for the trial on aiding and abetting murder charges to be delayed because jury selection for the federal trial against the three men starts on Thursday with jury selection.
The three are accused of denying Floyd his civil rights while acting under government authority when he was killed in May of 2020. Former officer Derek Chauvin has already been convicted of murder in state court and pleaded guilty to federal charges.
Floyd’s death was captured on cellphone video and sparked civil unrest in Minnesota and across the nation.
