Wind Chill Advisory Issued for Wednesday

(KNSI) — After two seemingly balmy days in the 30s, Minnesota is going right back into the deep freeze.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory starting at midnight until noon on Wednesday.

The overnight lows will be between five and ten degrees below zero, with a high of two below for Wednesday and blustery winds out of the northwest kicking up Tuesday afternoon and lasting through Wednesday evening, gusting around 30 to 40 miles an hour, driving windchills down to between 25 to 35 degrees below zero. The dangerously cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes.

Those gusty winds will also create areas of patchy blowing snow. That patchy blowing snow icing over the roads could make driving a bit tricky with visibilities dropping and the potential for snow to drift over roads. Get the latest road conditions by clicking here.

Winds die down Wednesday night, but the overnight low will be around 20 below with a high of one below Thursday and around 15 below for the low on Thursday night.

Temps will rise into the mid-30s today and drop quickly, icing over sidewalks.

People are urged to drive and walk with caution as icy spots can catch drivers and pedestrians off guard.
