(KNSI) – Today would have been actress Betty White’s 100th birthday, and to mark the occasion, animal lovers are being asked to participate in the Betty White Challenge.
The challenge is soliciting donations to local animal shelters to honor White, a lifelong animal lover, and advocate. In her book, “Betty & Friends,” she said her parents were genuine animal nuts and that she is “eternally grateful that they have passed much of that passion on to me.”
She also helped numerous animal shelters and nonprofits by donating, fundraising, volunteering, and visiting zoos to learn more about animals that inhabit different countries worldwide.
Locally, the Tri-County Humane Society is accepting donations for the challenge, which was started by fans of the actress after her death on December 31st. An email from the TCHS says, “Whether you give $5 or $5000, your donation will help us do the work that was so important to Betty. We can think of no better way to honor this legendary entertainer and animal advocate. She’d be very pleased. So many animals across the country are going to benefit on her behalf. Let’s make this the movement Betty deserves!
From all of us at TCHS,
Thank You for Being a Friend!”
