(KNSI) – Minneapolis and St. Paul will soon require proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a recent negative COVID-19 test to go out to restaurants and bars. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter made the announcement Wednesday. The proclamation will also cover ticketed stadium events.
The new mandate will take effect on Tuesday, January 19th.
Carter says he wants to keep his city open but says it must be done safely. Frey says the proof of vaccination requirement will avoid closing down bars and restaurants. The city of Minneapolis says a picture of a person’s vaccination card is proof enough.
Public health managers say if you’re planning on showing a negative COVID test, it cannot be more than three days old (72 hours).
