(KNSI) – The Minnesota Vikings have fired head coach Mike Zimmer and general manager Rick Spielman after missing the playoffs for the last two years. The team is expected to announce both men’s departure on Monday morning.
It was the first time the team had missed the playoffs in back-to-back seasons under Zimmer. He was 72-56-1 as the Vikings coach.
Zimmer was hired in 2014 after spending six seasons as the Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator. He had previously coached with Atlanta and Dallas. It’s the first time Zimmer has been fired.
Spielman was hired by the Vikings in 2006 and had been the GM since 2012.
