(KNSI) — The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the entire state of Minnesota.
The winter weather advisory for central Minnesota is in effect from 6:00 p.m. Tuesday to 3:00 p.m. Wednesday.
Forecasters say total snow accumulations around central Minnesota will only be around two to four inches between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning along and north of Interstate 94, but gusty northwest winds will kick up to around 45 to 50 miles an hour, creating whiteout conditions at times, especially in the more open areas. Patchy blowing snow could linger into Wednesday afternoon.
Drivers should expect slippery roads and near zero visibility at times. The advisory says to avoid travel Tuesday night, if possible. If you are planning to be out and about, check road conditions with the Minnesota Department of Transportation’s road condition information website by clicking here.
Behind the snow is a mass of arctic air that will plunge Minnesota back into the deep freeze. Wind chills colder than 25 degrees below zero are possible as daily highs will range from the single digits below zero to the single digits above zero, which experts say could cause frostbite in as little as 30 minutes.
