(KNSI) – A Catholic elementary school in St. Cloud will remain closed this week after water pipes burst while students and staff were away on winter break. St. Katharine Drexel School sustained extensive damage after maintenance crews discovered the issue last weekend.
In an email sent to parents, the school says multiple building experts and assessors have advised them not to resume classes until next week. According to Principal Maria Heymans-Becker says the situation is out of their control.
The school is fixing an issue with the building’s heating system, replacing insulation, recarpet rooms, and drying out rooms.
The school hopes to bring kids back to class on Monday but won’t know for sure until late Friday.
In the meantime, the school will focus on offering children chances to work on their grade-level standards and skills. Teachers will be emailing out Flexible Learning Academic Plans/Activities and educational links that parents are encouraged to do from home the rest of the week. SKD is also exploring some possible school make-up days for students and staff.
