(KNSI) — Tuesday’s dumping of snow was just enough to screw up the roads for the afternoon commute around the state.
The Minnesota State Patrol says between 11:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m., troopers responded to 280 spinouts, eight jackknifed semis, and 337 crashes, 23 of which involved non-life-threatening injuries. One person was killed in a crash on Highway 52 in Inver Grove Heights Tuesday night. Crash investigators say the 63-year-old driver from Dublin, Georgia, was driving north on 52 when his van slid off the road, hit a guardrail, and rolled. Troopers say he was not wearing his seatbelt.
There is still some residual ice on the roads Wednesday morning. Plow crews were out overnight treating the roads, but chemicals don’t work as well with the bitter cold temperatures. Officials say even if a road looks wet, it could be icy, so it’s important to slow down.
