(KNSI) — A winter weather advisory for the St. Cloud area has been extended to go until noon Monday, December 27th. It had been posted until 6:00 a.m. Monday morning for roughly the southern half of Minnesota, including the St. Cloud metro area. Benton County, which was in the winter weather advisory, is now in a winter storm warning. That goes until noon Monday, December 27th.

Forecasters say a potent winter storm system will continue to move across Minnesota and western Wisconsin Monday morning. Additional snow accumulations of one to three inches are expected in parts of central Minnesota with areas seeing six to ten inches total. Freezing rain or freezing drizzle is also expected, which could put a light glaze of ice on surfaces. Wind gusts of around 40 miles an hour could lead to some patchy blowing snow. Temps will start out in the upper 20s and then fall into the mid-teens through the day.

Roads were partially to mostly covered with snow in several areas. Scattered slick spots are also being reported. Get the latest road conditions by calling 511. Road conditions can also be found by clicking here.
