(KNSI) — A 61-year-old Hutchinson man has been sentenced for his role in dragging a police officer with his truck.
McCloud County Judge Jody Winters sentenced Luke Oeltjenbruns (ELL-chin-brans) to one year in prison on charges of first and second-degree assault.
Last April, Oeltjenbruns hit a Menard’s employee multiple times in the head with a piece of wood after the employee would not check him out without wearing a mask. Officers located his vehicle and a pursuit followed. At one point during the pursuit, Officer Steven Sickman reached into the truck to try and grab the keys. Oeltjenbruns rolled up the window, smashed into two patrol cars, and took off, dragging Officer Sickman while also hitting him in the head with a rescue hammer.
Officer Sickman needed eight staples in his head and had a large injury to his right arm.
During the hearing, Oeltjenbrun’s wife explained her husband suffers from depression and PTSD.
Oeltjenbruns was sentenced to a year in prison, ten years probation, community service, therapy and he must write an apology letter to the victims. Failure to follow through could result in ten years in prison.
