(KNSI) — Flags around the state are at half staff until sunset on Saturday, December 18th, to honor Upsala Fire Captain Brian Lange.

Lange died December 11th of a medical illness he suffered in the line of duty. What that illness was was not specified.

According to a proclamation from Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Lange was a firefighter for the Upsala Fire Department for 22 years and had served the last six as captain. He is survived by his wife, daughters, a brother, and a granddaughter.

Captain Lange was a life-long citizen of Upsala, where he graduated as Valedictorian of the class of 1985, worked at Stearns Bank Upsala, and enjoyed making things with his hands.

Walz has ordered the flags to fly at half staff at all state buildings in the State of Minnesota, from sunrise until sunset on Saturday, December 18th, 2021, in honor and remembrance of Fire Captain Brian Lange.
