(KNSI) – The defense has rested in the trial of the Brooklyn Center police officer charged in the fatal shooting of motorist Daunte Wright. Kimberly Potter took the stand in her own defense Friday, claiming the situation “just went chaotic” after Wright tried to get back into his car.
Mike Bryant of Bradshaw Bryant Law Office in St. Cloud told KNSI, in this case, she had to take the stand.
“It was interesting. I was waiting to hear her testify to see what she would say about a number of things. She forgot things, which I think is probably more of a product of PTSD.”
Bryant says the most interesting aspect of this case is the relationship between the prosecution and the police officer.
“It’s real interesting, you’ve got a police officer being personally prosecuted here. And so it’s a different role between the police officer and the prosecution from what there normally is. I think it’s very clear when you watch the video that she felt horrible about what happened.”
Potter is charged with first and second-degree manslaughter. If convicted on the highest count, she faces up to 15 years in prison. Closing arguments in the case, and jury instructions, are expected Monday.
