(KNSI) – The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs is asking for the public’s help to place wreaths to honor Minnesota’s fallen heroes.

MDVA creates a one-of-a-kind memorial with wreaths placed on all headstones at the three State Veterans Cemeteries in Little Falls, Preston, and Saginaw, near Duluth, during the winter holidays. In 2021, the Minnesota non-profit organization that took the lead in purchasing these wreaths for the State Veterans Cemeteries-a significant financial investment-is unable to do so. The fundraising goal is $100,000 for 6,500 decorated wreaths.

Minnesotans are invited to visit one of the State Veterans Cemeteries and enjoy the sea of wreaths that should all be placed by December 20th. Wreaths typically remain until the end of January.

More than 10,300 Veterans and spouses are buried at the three cemeteries. More details are available at MinnesotaVeteran.org/Wreath.

Cemetery locations:

Little Falls: 15550 Highway 115, Little Falls, MN 56345
Preston: 715 Highway 52, Preston, MN 55965
Duluth: 4777 Highway 53, Saginaw, MN 55779
Hours of operation for all three locations:

The cemetery office is open from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday – Friday (closed on State Holidays). Visitors may visit the cemetery grounds seven days per week during daylight hours.
