(KNSI) — Flags around St. Cloud and Minnesota will be at half staff this week to honor Senator Bob Dole, who died over the weekend.
Dole served in the U.S. Army, where he earned the Purple Heart twice and two Bronze Stars in World War II. He also served 27 years in the Senate for the state of Kansas and was the Senate majority leader. He ran for president in 1996, losing to incumbent President Bill Clinton.
Flags at all state buildings will be flown at half staff until sunset on Thursday. Individuals, businesses, and other organizations are also encouraged to join in lowering their flags.
Dole was 98.
