(KNSI) — The city of Minneapolis is edging closer to its all-time record of homicides for one year after two more people were shot to death Wednesday night. The two shootings mark the 90th and 91st homicides in Minneapolis this year.

The Minneapolis police department says the first shooting was in the parking lot of a gas station on West Broadway Avenue near the city’s north side about 7:40 p.m. Officers say the victim was wounded after he allegedly engaged in an exchange of gunfire. He was taken to the hospital, where he died.

The second shooting happened about two and a half hours later, about 10:15, near 31st and Logan Avenues North. Two people were shot in that incident. One of them died at the scene. The other arrived later at the hospital for treatment.

Three of the homicides were children who were shot to death.

A record 97 homicides took place in Minneapolis in 1995.

Five people have been murdered in St. Cloud in 2021. That too marks a record for the city.
