(KNSI) — St. Cloud State University and two local businesses have been awarded more than $500,000 in job training grants from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development.
SCSU and Eye-Kraft have received $278,000 are teaming up to train 102 of its workers to help close skill gaps created by attrition and changes in the industry. Eye-Kraft manufactures eyeglasses and accessories for eye care providers. Those who complete the training will be eligible to take the American Board of Opticianry National Opticianry Competency Exam.
Sand Companies, Inc. and SCSU were awarded $250,000 for training 130 Sand Companies workers. The training is a custom jointly developed program that includes four tracts and is expected to increase employee retention and advancement. Sand Companies, Inc. deals with construction, property management, and real estate development.
DEED awarded 13 workforce development grants totaling nearly $2.2 million under the Minnesota Jobs Skills Partnership.
