(KNSI) — Police in Mounds View say they are investigating an alleged officer-involved shooting Sunday night.

According to a press release from the Mounds View Police Department, just before 7:00, a call of possible shots fired was reported in the area of the 2600 block of County Road I. Police responded and found no activity, but while searching, an armed robbery call came in at the parking lot of a nearby business about a block away.

Officers arrived and found a person who said someone pointed a gun at him and then drove off to a nearby liquor store and ran inside. Officers went to the liquor store, and as they approached, an employee came running out, saying there was a gunman inside by himself.

The press release says police from Mounds View and New Brighton entered the liquor store and were confronted by the armed suspect. It says, “several officers discharged their weapons, striking the suspect.” Officers rendered first aid, and the suspect was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Body cameras were active for the duration of the call. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating.
