(KNSI) — A 16-year-old Apple Valley girl is dead after an ATV crash on Thanksgiving day.
According to the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office, about 3:45 p.m., a 911 came in about an ATV crash with injuries in a large field west of the Brainerd Airport. Investigators say 18-year-old Tashaud Nelson of Apple Valley was driving the ATV northeast on the field when it approached a valley or a drainage ditch, went airborne, landing at the bottom of the ditch, and rolling the ATV several times, coming to a rest near the top of the north side of the ditch.
Nelson was airlifted to North Memorial for treatment. Sixteen-year-old Isabella Brandt was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials say the two were not wearing helmets or protective riding equipment at the time of the crash.
The Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Department, with the Minnesota State Patrol assisting, is investigating.
