(KNSI) – Kyle Rittenhouse has been acquitted on all charges.
He was charged with two counts of first-degree reckless homicide – use of a dangerous weapon, two counts of reckless endangerment, and first-degree attempted homicide – use of a dangerous weapon. The 18-year-old maintained he killed two men and injured a third in self-defense last year during violent protests in Kenosha, Wisconsin after the police-involved shooting of Jacob Blake. On the stand, Rittenhouse said, “I didn’t do anything wrong. I defended myself.”
The prosecution painted Rittenhouse as a wannabe soldier who went to the city to provoke violence.
He was accused of the fatal shooting of 36-year-old Joseph Rosenbaum, and 26-year-old Anthony Huber. He also seriously injured now 28-year-old Gaige Grosskreutz.
Rittenhouse was facing life in prison for the most serious of the charges. After hearing the verdict, he broke down into tears, collapsed onto the defense table, and hugged one of his defense attorneys before being quickly removed from the courtroom and out through a door in Circuit Judge Bruce Schroeder’s chambers.
