(KNSI) – The jury in Kyle Rittenhouse’s trial finished its third day of deliberations on Thursday without reaching a verdict. St. Cloud area attorney Mike Bryant with Bradshaw and Bryant Law Firm says he’s not shocked it’s taking this long for jurors to come to a decision.
“They’ve got a lot of things to go through. It’s not like they’re all based upon one incident. They’re based upon multiple incidents. You got the first shooting. The second shooting and the third shooting.”
He says it’s impossible to know if the jury is hung up on one piece of evidence or several issues. He says not to infer anything just because the jury is taking its time.
“With a quick verdict it’s going to go whatever way it looked like the trial was going, everybody agreed and boom it’s done. Once it starts getting into longer, you start getting into all sorts of different thoughts about, well could they be doing this, could they be doing that.”
Meanwhile, the judge has banned MSNBC from the courthouse after a network freelancer was accused of following the jurors’ bus. Bryant says the judge was within his right to make that call.
“I think the judge decided they were close enough to breaking the rules and he didn’t want to mess with it. So, he was banned them from the courthouse. He owns the courthouse. I think it’s pretty clear with this judge. He knows he owns the courthouse. So this trial has reached a level of craziness that you just don’t see. I mean, it’s nuts.”
Two mistrial requests from the defense are hanging over the politically and racially fraught case. Last week the defense asked for a mistrial after saying the prosecutor asked improper questions.
A second mistrial motion was sparked by a jury request Wednesday to re-watch video in the case. Rittenhouse’s attorneys say the defense received an inferior copy of a key video from prosecutors. The judge has not ruled on the request.
