(KNSI) — An Amtrak train from Seattle bound for Chicago is back underway after being held up for more than 12 hours in Red Wing due to an incident on board.
Amtrak confirmed the Empire Builder Train 8, which cuts through Minnesota, including Detroit Lakes, St. Cloud, and St. Paul, was stopped in Red Wing due to “police activity” Wednesday. Everything reportedly started Wednesday afternoon when a single bag was found unattended, and police said it needed to be investigated.
There were reportedly more than 80 people on board, and photos shared online showed a bomb squad on the scene.
About 6:50 p.m. Wednesday, police say the package was removed from the train without further incident. The train left the station just after 5:00 a.m. Thursday morning.
