St. Cloud Area School District 742 will switch to flexible learning days if winter weather keeps kids from getting to class.
According to a press release, as long as there is no widespread interruption of power or internet service, the first five weather-related closings days would be taught through the distance learning model. The district says a decision will be made about the school day the night before or by 5:30 a.m. the day of school.
When using the flexible learning plan, all school buildings will close, and all students will be learning at home. All student activities or practices, community education, adult basic education, early childhood education classes, and kids’ connection are canceled for that day. If a weather-related closing is not a flexible learning day, all school district buildings will be closed, and school is canceled.
The superintendent will decide any other school closing days, and the superintendent and the School Board will determine the make-up time for students.
St. Cloud Area School District weather announcements will be sent by an automated message, broadcast on KNSI Radio and the district’s website and social media sites.
If school sites are closed due to a weather-related emergency, meal service is also canceled.

KNSI News has reached out to the Sartell-St. Stephen, Sauk Rapids-Rice, and St. Cloud Catholic Community Schools to see if they’re also planning to use a flexible learning model on snow days.
Sartell reports they’ll have a regular snow day because they don’t have one on one electronic devices for their students. SRR and the CCS schools haven’t said what they’re doing on snow days.
