(KNSI) — The Central Minnesota Continuum of Care says the fight to end veteran homelessness in Minnesota has reached another major milestone.

Thirteen additional counties in the state have cleared their housing waiting list for veterans. Benton, Cass, Chisago, Crow Wing, Isanti, Kanabec, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Pine, Sherburne, Stearns, Todd, and Wright Counties were all added to the list, just in time for Veteran’s Day, which is observed on Thursday.

A press release from the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs says this does not mean there will be another homeless veteran. It does mean that efforts will be focused largely on the prevention of veteran homelessness, so when it does happen, the goal is that the systems, partnerships, and plans put in place can respond and make veteran homelessness rare, brief, and non-recurring.

Hennepin, Ramsey, and St. Louis Counties are still working toward ending veteran homelessness.

Three states have effectively ended veteran homelessness, and Minnesota is aiming to be the fourth. Learn more by clicking here.
