(KNSI) – Two central Minnesota businesses are fundraising in November to ensure elementary area kids stay warm outside in the winter. Mathison Motors and Coborn’s Superstore in Clearwater are teaming up for the “Essential 5” fundraiser. The fundraiser collects money to buy coats, hats, gloves, snow pants and boots for elementary-age kids.

The fundraiser started three years ago after Mathison Motor’s owner Jamie Schultz’s son came home from school and said he couldn’t play outside at recess because he’d forgotten his hat and didn’t have the essential five.

Shultz found out many kids don’t have the essential five, so she and her team at Mathison Motors have made it their mission to make sure area kids stay warm this winter.

This is the first year Coborn’s has joined the fundraiser and, all month long will ask customers to round up their purchase, with the remaining going to the fundraiser.
