(KNSI) – CentraCare Health will start giving the COVID-19 vaccine to kids ages 5 to 11 years old next week. CentraCare will start using the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 two-shot vaccination series for kids starting Friday and is taking appointments now at CentraCare and Carris Health facilities.

A parent or guardian must give consent and be present at any immunization appointment. Depending on availability, children ages 5 to 11 can get the vaccine at many CentraCare clinic locations.

Parents can start scheduling appointments now by calling CentraCare Connect at 320-200-3200, getting a vaccine during a regular clinic visit, or at the walk-in COVID-19 vaccine clinic at CentraCare South Point, 3001 Clearwater Road, St. Cloud, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays. A walk in-clinic will also be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, November 20th.

Also, watch the CentraCare Facebook for one-time vaccination events for kids in various communities. The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) also is looking into the possibility of partnering with school districts to provide access to vaccines.

According to the MDH, while children are far less likely than adults to get seriously ill from COVID-19, they still can transmit the disease to others. MDH says getting kids vaccinated is an important component of bringing the pandemic under control.
