(KNSI) – A St. Cloud woman is accused of assaulting a man and endangering an infant. Aaliyah Marchelle Hooker has been charged with one gross misdemeanor count of endangering a child and two misdemeanor counts of domestic assault.
According to the criminal complaint, on November 1, the St. Cloud Police Department was called to an apartment in the 400-block of 8th Avenue South for a welfare check on a child. Dispatch received information that 19-year-old Aaliyah Hooker had given a steak knife to her almost 11 month old and the father had been kicked out of the home.
The father told police he was cooking in the kitchen, and he looked over and Hooker had given the child a steak knife. The child had been sitting on the ground but began to move around with the knife and the man got the knife out of his hands as soon as possible.
The man says he had no idea why Hooker gave the child the knife. The man says Hooker told him it was a “joke” and tried to play it off like it was nothing. The man says she then took the child into a bedroom a few minutes later to confront Hooker about giving the child a knife.
According to court records, Hooker yelled at the man, so he walked away back toward the kitchen. The man stated that Hooker followed him and began throwing items at him. The man says he began recording at this point.
When the man got into the kitchen, he says Hooker started hitting him with a broom. The man says he went to the bedroom to gather some of his items while the child was drying and Hooker was swearing at him.
Police say Hooker then went into another room with Child A and
locked the door. The man says he was concerned for the child’s safety. He says Hooker told him she was going to rip up the parental rights paperwork so, the man broke into that room and grabbed the papers and left.
The man says he wasn’t sure if he could legally take the child as paternity had not been established via court. The man says he’s the primary caretaker of the child while Hooker is at work all day.
An officer spoke with Hooker, who admitted she gave the knife to the child but stated she meant it as a joke. Hooker was visibly shaking and crying and repeatedly said she was sorry. Hooker also admitted to throwing items toward the man and hitting him with the broom because she was angry, according to court records.
Police were able to view and later save as evidence four Snapchat videos taken of Hooker showing her as being unstable, vulgar, and assaultive. Police also saw a photograph of the knife, described as an eight-inch kitchen knife (not a “butter” knife).
