(KNSI) – A man was arrested after allegedly stabbing a woman leading to a nearly seven-hour standoff in Belgrade. Around 10:00 a.m. on Monday, the Belgrade/Brooten Police Department was called for a welfare check at home in the 100-block of Washburn Avenue in Belgrade.

The caller said they received a picture from a woman inside the home who suffered a stab wound. Police responded and set up a perimeter, contacted the people inside, and began negotiations.

The woman was released, and Glacier Ridge Ambulance and Life Link Helicopter treated the woman. She was taken by ambulance to Paynesville Hospital with non-life threatening stab wounds.

The Benton/Stearns SWAT Team was also called to the scene. Negotiators continued with the man inside the home. Around 6 p.m., the man surrendered to the police.

Police say the incident remains under investigation and no further information will be released at this time. Investigators will coordinate with the Stearns County Attorney’s Office regarding formal charges.
