(KNSI) – A man accused of fleeing from police three times in three days and was later arrested after a stand-off in Sartell has pleaded guilty to some of the charges filed against him.
Jason William Schwieger pleaded guilty to four felony counts, including two counts of fleeing police in a motor vehicle and two counts of making threats of violence. He was sentenced on October 22nd to five years probation and community service. As part of the plea deal, charges of theft of a motor vehicle, two counts of fleeing police, and two counts of domestic assault were dismissed.
In August, Schwieger fled from police after cops attempted to pull him over for driving with a revoked license. Police say they ended the chase because there were children in the car with Schieger. The next day, police tried to arrest Schwieger during a pre-arranged custody. When Schwieger saw police, he jumped into a vehicle a fled. Police gave chase but called off the pursuit for safety reasons after Schwieger started weaving in and out of traffic.
The following day, police got a tip that Schwieger was in a vehicle at his home in Sartell and parked a squad car to block him in. Schwieger then allegedly climbed from the back seat into the front seat and started the car. Investigators say he backed into a police car, maneuvered out of the yard past the officers, and fled. Police gave chase for 17 miles before ending the pursuit after the chase neared the Benton County Fairgrounds.
The 36-year-old man is still charged with three counts of violating a domestic abuse no-contact order after a five-hour stand-off in the 200-Block of 10th Avenue North in Sartell. A judge issued a no-contact order baring the 36-year-old from having any contact with his wife or children. The wife and children were home when Schwieger arrived, according to police. St. Cloud SWAT threw a pepper ball into the house to take Schwieger into custody. The trial for that case is set for December 14th.
