(KNSI) – St. Cloud has approved a developer leveling the old city hall and turning the property into a commercial building.
The council approved rezoning the lot at 2nd Street South and 5th Avenue South during Monday’s meeting. The two-story, 20,000 square foot Highbanks Plaza building will be the home of Bremer Bank’s Regional Headquarters and a café or coffee shop. According to St. Cloud, the project represents $15 million in investment into the downtown.
The current Bremer Bank location at 1100 West St. Germain Street will move into the new building. Bremer’s old building will be taken over by Granite Partners and turned into the Granite Innovation Center.
St. Cloud is moving its city offices to the former Tech High School building. The original 1917 portions of the school are in the final stages of renovation and St. Cloud should host its first meeting in January. Mayor Kleis had previously said the upgrades would cost around $10.4 million.
