(KNSI) — St. Cloud-based Marco says it has donated more than $200,000 for the United Way in its 12 state footprint.

According to a press release from Marco, the company’s employees raised over $211,000 through pledges, corporate matches, and special events held throughout the year. Marco had a goal of raising $200,000.

Jessica Houle, vice president of development and engagement at United Way of Central Minnesota, called Marco a “key contributor” to its mission. She said Marco does this by “allowing employees to volunteer for their passions throughout the year and see firsthand the needs in the community. We are focused on ensuring people’s basic needs are met through an area we call the Community Safety Net. Marco’s annual employee donation drive gives each of their employees the chance to give a financial investment to be a part of the solution.”

The press release says that more than 450 Marco employees also made personal pledges to their United Way; 38 are part of Marco’s Young Leaders in Giving Program. The group members, who are under 35, have committed to donating at least $250 a year to the United Way.

Marco’s vice president of human resources, Susan Yost, says of the feat, “Exceeding the United Way campaign goal of $200,000 took commitment from everyone at Marco. We appreciate that United Way will use these funds to provide essential programs and services, including food, transportation and early literacy. Marco is committed to giving back to the communities we serve by sponsoring events, participating in fundraisers and encouraging employees to volunteer on and off company time. It’s part of our Gold Standard culture. Because for Marco, it’s not enough to just do well as a business, we also must ‘do good.'”

Marco has been contributing to the United Way since 1973.
