(KNSI) — A St. Cloud man accused of strangling a woman and throwing items around her home has been arrested and charged in Stearns County.
Police say they were called to a home on the 1300 block of 6th Avenue South about 2:30 Thursday morning for a domestic assault. The woman there told police she had moved to get away from Jonathan McCain due to relationship issues and her fear that they would escalate. She told investigators McCain came to her house and rang the doorbell repeatedly, and when she let him inside, the two began arguing. She said she called him a name he didn’t like, and according to the criminal complaint, McCain “flipped out” and put his hand around her trachea and pushed her up against a wall. She told police McCain then went into the kitchen and began throwing things and dumped a drink on her belongings.
She said he left the home and began sending her emails before returning to the house and letting himself in, stating he left his phone there because he threw it. She said he went for her neck again, but she hit him away and told him he needed to fix her wall that was damaged when he slammed her into it. She said he continued to throw and break items. She said she also fell and landed in broken glass, and while she was down, he kicked her and then left.
She was treated for several cuts, and McCain was found at his home and arrested.
He has been charged with one count of felony domestic assault by strangulation. He is due back in court on November 1st.
