(KNSI) — A 50-year-old woman is under arrest and charged with motor vehicle theft after police say she stole another woman’s car with a dog inside and then crashed it near St. Cloud Hospital.

According to the criminal complaint, at about 9:40 Monday night, police were called to a car theft in the 1200 block of 15th Street North in St. Cloud. A woman told police she was “dumpster diving” when a woman, later identified as Rebecca Dianne Faulk, approached her. She said Faulk was talking, but she couldn’t understand what she was saying. Then she says Faulk got in her car and drove away. The woman said Faulk did not have her permission to use the car, and she was extremely upset because her pet dog was in the car.

Officers were giving the woman a ride home when court papers say they found Faulk walking near Northway Drive and 9th Avenue North. She allegedly told police she abandoned the car near the St. Cloud Hospital. Police found it and said it was severely damaged and the dog was nowhere to be found.

Faulk was placed under arrest, and police say during a search, they found the keys to the vehicle in her pocket. She is set to make her first court appearance Thursday morning.

Sources have confirmed to KNSI that the dog was found safe and returned to its human.
