(KNSI) — It was announced at a St. Cloud Planning Commission meeting this week that the old St. Cloud City Hall will be torn down to make way for Bremer Bank.
City Development Director Matt Glaesman says they wanted to find a balance between historic preservation and commercial development.
The site, at 4th Avenue and Division Street, will have a two-story office building and also house drive-through retail space. It will be known as Highbanks Plaza when the downtown branch of Bremer Bank moves into the new facility. The other nearby branches will remain open, but some services could be consolidated into the new building.
The St. Cloud City Council still needs to sign off on the deal, which will happen at a future meeting.
St. Cloud City Hall is moving into a space at the old Tech High School. The non-historic portion of the school was torn down. City offices will begin to move into the renovated building in December.
