(KNSI) – A St. Cloud based non-profit says it needs the community to make sure every family can enjoy Christmas.
The Share the Spirit program is sponsored by Catholic Charities of the Diocese of St. Cloud. Catholic Charities Executive Director Steve Pareja says now is the time of year when they need to start planning for the program.
“Families, organizations, groups, church congregations and businesses can get together and they can adopt families for the holiday season and make sure they have a good Christmas. A fun experience and have some gifts to open Christmas morning.”
Families are recommended for the program by social workers, schools, and medical professionals. Pareja says families are asked to give their three wants and needs for the holiday.
“And what I’ve witnessed over the years, is families who adopt these other families. They fulfill those three wants and those three needs and a lot of times what happens is those families go above and beyond because they want to make sure that those people also have something fun and it’s really a wonderful experience to witness.”
Families of all sizes are available for Share the Spirit sponsorship. Donors are expected to spend $70 per family member on gifts. Presents need to be gift-wrapped and delivered to the Minnesota National Guard Armory in St. Cloud on Thursday by December 16th.
Families and social workers will be pick up the following day on December 17th. To sponsor a Share the Spirit family or donate to the program, click here.
