(KNSI) — A woman is dead, and a man is under arrest after a shooting in Crow Wing County late Thursday night.
The sheriff’s office says they received a call about several shots fired just after 11:00 in Lake Edward Township, roughly ten miles north of Brainerd. Deputies, along with officers from the Brainerd, Baxter, Nisswa, Pequot Lakes, Crosslake, and Breezy Point Police Departments, the Crow Wing County drone team, the Crow Wing County Crisis Negotiation Team, the Tactical Response Team, North Memorial Ambulance, and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension all responded. When they arrived, they encountered a man who was allegedly armed with a rifle and a handgun.
Negotiators worked with the man for nearly two hours and eventually convinced him to surrender. He was then taken into custody.
Officers searched the area where the shots fired call came in, and the Tactical Response Teams said they found a woman who had been shot to death inside a cabin.
The investigation is ongoing. No names have been released.
