(KNSI) — A 30-year-old Stearns County man has been sentenced to ten years in prison and five years of supervised release for drug and firearms charges.

According to court documents, on November 22nd of 2019, Samuel Charles Skelton II sold a pound of methamphetamine to a confidential informant for $4,500. Investigators conducting surveillance on Skelton arrested him after he left St. Cloud and was heading toward the Twin Cities. A search of his BMW revealed more than three pounds of meth, digital scales, phones, cocaine, over $1,600 cash, gabapentin, cyclobenzaprine, and oxycodone.

On April 13th of 2020, court documents say police were called to a suspected drug overdose death at a home in Brook Park, Minnesota, which is in Pine County. While the investigation was ongoing, police say Skelton arrived at the scene, and his BMW was searched. That search turned up 14 grams of meth, 9.4 grams of marijuana; four loaded 30 round magazines of .223 ammunition, one loaded 30 round magazine of .300 ammunition, a loaded 9mm Sig Sauer semi-automatic handgun, a High Standard .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun, an Anderson .300 caliber AR-15 style rifle, and a .223 caliber FR AR-15 style rifle.

Court papers say Skelton has numerous felony convictions from Stearns and Clay Counties and is not legally allowed to possess firearms or ammunition.

The Ramsey County Violent Crime Enforcement Task Force, the East Central Drug and Violent Offenders Task Force, Homeland Security Investigations, and the St. Paul Police Department worked on the investigation.
