(KNSI) — Family, friends, and the St. Cloud community are mourning the loss of Jim Miller, who died Sunday at his home.

In 1955, Miller’s father, Albert Miller, died, and Jim ran the family farm building repair and new farm building construction business, which had expanded to include residential and commercial remodeling. Jim Miller purchased the company from his mother in 1956 and continued with farm building construction. After that, he started to build new homes, plus residential remodeling work and concrete work.

His business, Miller Companies Incorporated, which deals in real estate sales, property management and development, is credited with building several commercial and industrial properties, office buildings, apartments, motels, and funeral homes. His family is also part of Miller Carlin Funeral Homes.

Known for their philanthropy, Jim and his wife, Marion Miller, created the Miller Family Fund in 1998 with the Central Minnesota Community Foundation. They also fund a scholarship with St. Cloud State University, and the resource learning center on the SCSU campus, which opened in 2000, bears his name.

Jim is survived by his wife Marion, his sons, Tim Miller and Dan Miller, his daughters, Melanie and her husband Bob Plombon, and Lezlie, and her husband Bill Carlin. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, a sister, and a brother. He was 86.
