(KNSI) – A local legislator says he’ll carry legislation to make improvements to St. Cloud State University.

Members of the Minnesota House Capital Investment Committee met on the SCSU campus on Thursday. The committee is touring sites for proposed capital investment throughout the state. SCSU administrators have proposed building a new Education and Learning Design Complex and other improvements to the university.

St. Cloud lawmaker Dan Wolgamott says he will seek $4.5 million to renovate, demolition, and construct St. Cloud State’s Education building, Early Learning Center, and Lab School.

“This is going to modernize the way that we teach education in St. Cloud. It’s going to quadruple the amount of childcare that we can provide for students on campus and make us more competitive as an institution. passage of this bill would be a huge win for everyone in St. Cloud.”

Wolgamott says the project will benefit 1200 students and serve over 500 children and families per year. The St. Cloud stop was one of the first this year as part of the committee’s northwest tour. Other communities in the state will be visiting in the coming weeks.
