(KNSI) – A walk in St. Cloud to raise awareness about the dangers of sex trafficking is looking for more participants. “A Walk Together – Uniting Against Sex Trafficking” is a fundraising set for Saturday morning. Walkers will start at Shear Dynamics Salon in Waite Park and walk to Riverside Park in southeast St. Cloud.

Shear Dynamics owner and event organizer Linda Wander says this is the third year of the event, and it’s grown over that time.

“The first year we raised over 13,000 dollars and we had over 80 walkers. And then last year during COVID we changed the time from spring to fall and we had almost 100 walkers and raised over $20,000.”

This year’s goal is $30,000, but they’ll need more walkers to be able to hit that goal.

“Quite honestly, we really need walkers. Because people that are going to participate in the event is really our focus so that people can be educated. So we really, really want walkers.”

Wander says people can register on the day of the event. Sign-in is Saturday at 8:30 a.m. at the salon. The walk starts from there at 9 a.m. and should reach the park by 10:15. Speakers will then talk about the effect sex trafficking has on the community and educate people on what to look for to spot sex trafficking.

The cost is $35 for the walk with a t-shirt and $15 for students if they don’t want a shirt. All of the money raised will be donated to the Central Minnesota Sexual Assault Center.
