(KNSI) – A 23-year-old man from Rice is facing felony charges after police say he allegedly choked a woman and threatened to kill her.
According to the criminal complaint, police were called to a home in Brockway Township early Friday morning for a domestic assault. Investigators say Romaine Anthony Reid was at the end of the home’s driveway, and a woman was discovered hiding in a neighbor’s yard after telling the dispatcher that Reid was looking for her.
The woman told police she and Reid had gotten into an argument in the garage when he pulled her out of a vehicle and placed her in a chokehold. She said she told Reid to stop, but he squeezed harder until she couldn’t breathe. She said he put her on the ground, sat on top of her, ripped off her shirt, grabbed a metal rod, and threatened to hit her with it. She said he also grabbed a nail gun and said he would drive nails into her head, threatened to light her on fire, and referenced a nearby gas can. She said he also threatened to shoot her. She ran off when Reid went inside.
Reid told police the two were arguing because she was mad he met another woman to get a “substance” to help him “relax,” and he later became upset when she was talking on the phone to another man. He said he was trying to get her phone and ripped her shirt in the process. He said he then grabbed her arms, turned her around, so her back was facing his torso, and held onto her using one of his arms around her neck and the other around her waist. The criminal complaint says Reid acknowledged that the woman was trying to get away from him and said she was “borderline getting choked.” Reid said he let the woman go, and she ran off.
Reid was charged with felony threats of violence, felony domestic assault by strangulation, two counts of misdemeanor domestic assault.
Bail was set at $30,000. Reid’s next court date is set for October 4th.
